Advertising Policy

How advertising is presented and managed across The City Brief city editions.

Our approach

Advertising supports the continued publication and expansion of The City Brief.

Our goal is to create a clear, respectful balance between reader experience and advertiser visibility.

Each city edition maintains a consistent structure designed to preserve clarity while offering meaningful exposure for local businesses.

We prioritise transparency, relevance and straightforward presentation in all paid placements.

Placement formats

Advertising appears within defined sections of each edition.

  • Featured placements positioned prominently within the newsletter
  • Standard placements aligned within weekly content sections
  • Sponsored features clearly marked and separated from editorial listings
  • Multi-city placements available across selected editions

All placements follow a consistent visual format across cities.

Clear labelling

All paid placements are clearly labelled within each edition.

Sponsored content is presented in a format that distinguishes it from standard editorial listings.

We do not publish undisclosed paid content.

Readers are able to identify advertising without ambiguity.

Relevance standards

Advertising must be relevant to the city or audience it appears in.

We reserve the right to decline placements that:

  • Do not align with the city-focused format
  • Are misleading or unclear
  • Contain unverified claims
  • Conflict with legal or regulatory requirements

Our aim is to maintain a focused, useful reading experience in each edition.

Advertiser responsibilities

Advertisers are responsible for ensuring that all information provided for placement is accurate and lawful.

This includes claims, event details, dates, pricing and contact information.

The City Brief does not independently verify all advertiser claims and encourages readers to confirm details directly with businesses where appropriate.

Editorial independence

Advertising relationships do not determine unrelated editorial coverage.

Paid placements do not influence inclusion or exclusion of other city listings.

The structure and content of each edition remain under The City Brief's editorial control.

Ad volume and placement limits

Each edition maintains a controlled number of advertising placements.

We do not overload newsletters with excessive advertising.

Maintaining reader trust and clarity is a core priority.

Political and sensitive advertising

The City Brief does not currently accept political campaign advertising.

We reserve the right to decline placements that are controversial, misleading or inconsistent with community standards.
